You know you are a Camp Nawaka Alumni when……

1. Every sweatshirt you own is navy blue and emblazoned with NAWAKA
2. Even when dining alone, you stand before every meal and sing grace.
3. Your almost 30 and still considering going back to camp for one more summer.
4. There is a Merit Award hanging on the wall of your office…..but
your diploma is buried in a box somewhere.
5. All the towels in your linen closet are folded in a triangle…just
like the flag.
6. You can not fall asleep unless you can hear bullfrogs croaking.
7. The only ghost story you know is about Mordachi Jackson.
8. You live in a big city but save all your food scraps for the pig farmer.
9. You can finger spell the alphabet.
10. When help is needed, you jump in like an EAGER BEAVER CAMPER!

Camp Nawaka and Camp Fire USA needs your help! There is no escaping
the grim financial news that dominates the headlines. Everyone is
cutting back…families, corporations and even foundations! As times
get tight, financial support of non-profit organizations declines
rapidly. Small non-profits are hurting and many can no longer deliver
vital services.

More than 100 kids were not able to attend one of Camp Fire's camps
(Nawaka, Ponkawissett and Zoo Camp) this past summer…because of
financial need. As more families are in need of campership aid, and
basic operating costs are rising, the number of dollars donated
decreases.

Imagine what your life would be like if you had not been able to
attend Camp Nawaka. While each camper gets something different from
the Nawaka experience, the skills learned and the memories made last a
lifetime. Perhaps you learned how to swim, to speak before a crowd,
to sleep without a light, to build a one-match fire, or to live with
others different from your family. Maybe you made lifelong friends,
built beautiful memories, and grew to be a caring, confident adult
leader. In ways large and small, the Camp Nawaka experience changed
all of our lives.

As a Nawaka Alumnus – you are and always will be an eager beaver
camper! More than anyone else YOU can help ensure that Camp Fire USA
continues to deliver quality programs to as many youth as possible.
Please jump in and help. It is up to you! Keep summer with Camp Fire
possible for a new generation of campers!

St. Anthony, when you prayed, your stolen book of prayers was given back to you. Pray now for all of us who have lost things precious and dear. Pray for all who have lost faith, hope or the friendship of God. Pray for us who have lost friends or relatives by death. Pray for all who have lost peace of mind or spirit. Pray that we may be given new hope, new faith, new love. Pray that lost things, needful and helpful to us, may be returned to our keeping. Or, if we must continue in our loss, pray that we may be given Christ’s comfort and peace. Amen.

Bunny is lost. I can not find him anywhere. We've been together since the spring of 1968. I don't recall seeing him since just before Christmas. I had assumed he was under the bed. He wasn't.

One of my favorite bloggers, Jim Sullivan over at Suldog (he reminds me of my cousin Michael) has several excellent posts up about the all too early jump retailers and other businesses get on endless Christmas promotions....you know the ones: radio stations that play Christmas music 24/7 starting in early November, stores that take down the Halloween decorations and put the Christmas stuff on October 20th etc. etc. Jim is encouraging everyone to remember that holidays should be celebrated one at a time.....and specifically that Thanksgiving celebrations should conclude prior to the commencement of the Christmas hype. Jim is encouraging all bloggers who agree to create a post titled "Thanksgiving Comes First"....a wee, little, homespun movement.

Personally, I would be very happy if my world had an extra few weeks free from endless Dunkin Donuts posters and billboards featuring an orange skinned Rachael Ray hawking gift cards.

If I get organized, I may have my Halloween decorations down by Thanksgiving.
